Larry & Dottie Schrock Update

October 17, 2008

Larry & Dottie Schrock were involved in a catastrophic car accident as they were returning home prematurely from our Great American Southwest tour, which they were hosting. A family emergency required that they leave the tour and return home.

As they traveled through the night in a rental car, a drunk driver going the wrong way on the interstate outside Nashville, TN, hit them head on. Our long-time friend and driver, Don Meese, who was with them as a relief driver, was killed instantly and Larry & Dottie were critically injured. They spent the next 8-10 weeks at Vanderbilt University Trauma Center clinging to life with serious injuries.

The CarePages.com website was a source of information and inspiration for all of us. The family kept everyone up-to-date with Larry & Dottie’s condition and improvements with daily journal entries; plus we were able to send virtual cards and messages. The family read every message and card received to them each day and finally Larry & Dottie were able to read them all, too.

Christmas 2008

Larry & Dottie were discharged from the hospital and came home to Winchester, VA into the care of their family. It is truly a miracle that these two incredible people had the strength of body and spirit to be able to be at home with their children and grandchildren for Christmas. They began the long road to recovery with family, staff and friends by their side.

Today

Larry & Dottie are living proof of the power of prayer. They are continuing to gain strength each day. Larry continues to work with a physical therapist to strengthen his hip and knee. He does use a cane for stability. Dottie is able to walk without the use of a cane. She even wears her high-heel shoes to the office. She has undergone some plastic surgery in recent weeks and continues to heal.

The Meese family is grateful for all the prayers and support during the difficult months following the accident. The Schrocks continue to keep in touch with Mrs. Meese and her family.

Larry & Dottie plan to continue to be involved in the travel business they love on a part-time schedule and hope to be able to join our travelers on motorcoach excursions again in 2010.
